A couple of weeks ago, D and I decided that we wanted to eat somewhere special. It didn't take me very long to convince him that we absolutely HAD to try a certain dish in particular at Seryna at Little Tokyo in Makati. So early last week, D booked a table for us for Saturday lunch. Then, Typhoon Ferdie barreled into Luzon last Friday, casting gloominess all over the Metro. Still, we were decided on Seryna, and would leave it up to fate the next day.

As it turns out, the Pasong Tamo area experiences some nasty flooding after a shower. So for those of you who aren't familiar with the area (like us), we had to maneuver the side streets of Makati just to get to our destination. Thankfully, we did, and made it on time for our reservation!

That's the sushi chef behind the counter! At this point we couldn't contain our excitement. If you're wondering what's so special about the Kaisen Gozen meal, here are a couple of reasons why:

  1. There are only 30 orders of the Kaisen Gozen made every lunch time.
  2. In order to make sure you get one, either arrive early, or make a reservation!
  3. About 80% of the regular customers (like the guys at the counter), are Japanese nationals, so you know this place is the real deal.
  4. The price doubles at dinner time, so that's more incentive to dine early!

I won't keep you in suspense any longer, so here it is!

The Kaisen Gozen (P350). Simply put, it's a Chirashi bento with the works. This photo doesn't do it enough justice! You have the freshest sashimi on the top layer, your sushi rice with various pickles and tamago (sweet omelette) on the second layer, two bowls of salad, some karaage (fried chicken), soup and dessert. Considering what other authentic Japanese restaurants have to offer at this price tag, it's an absolute steal!

I think I'm in love.

We ordered a Spicy Tuna Sushi (P240) to complete our meal, but D and I mutually agreed that we should have ordered the salmon sashimi instead.

Seryna is a great place to bring your date, especially if you're starting the day early, and it's where D and I go to treat ourselves. You should, too.

Seryna is located at 2277 Chino Roces Ave. Legazpi Village, Makati.
