The British have celebrated a long history of tea. Since the 18th century, they have maintained status as the biggest tea consumers in the world, with each person consuming an average of 2.5kg a year!

Aside from the drink, the word 'tea' is also a British term for a light meal that starts around 4:00pm, quite similar to the Filipino merienda. Most of the snacks served include small sandwiches, pastries and scones.
