The best thing about being a web editor is the freedom to work wherever I want. When sitting at a desk just isn't cutting it for me, I can just pack up my things and go to wherever I can get the most work done. In most cases, it's empty coffee shops or the cafeteria of my office building after peak hours. After meeting up with some of my fellow web editors, we decided to grab lunch at a nearby shawarma place that promised authentic Turkish fare, and I'm always down for that. And did I mention that the owner is supposedly really cute?

Turkish doner kabab, or shawarma, is the specialty at Jacob's. Every day of the week has a corresponding special meat dish, and today's happened to be salmon (Mondays and Thursdays, it's chicken, Tuesdays and Saturdays, it's beef, Wednesdays and Fridays, it's salmon). Mark Sablan and Kat Darauay, web editors of Inside Pinoy Showbiz and My Home and Design respectively, were more than happy to try the place out with me.

One thing you'll notice first, aside from the Turkish decor, is the condiments. Instead of the ubiquitous garlic sauce, they serve you lemon juice. It's different from what most of us are used to, but it works.

Mark and Kat split an order of the Salmon Pita Shawarma (P200). I didn't have to look around before I heard Kat mutter, "OH MY GOD." Good sign, right?

As it turns out, the salmon was fresh, juicy and seasoned just right. It was enough for Kat and Mark to say that they want to come back tomorrow, and order their own instead of splitting it!

The nice lady at the counter said there was one order of Beef and Lamb Pita Shawarma (P200) left, so why not? It's hard to tell how big these are, but they are each 6 inches long. Yup, that's a foot of meaty goodness. And it was so worth it. The experience of putting lemon juice and hot sauce on my shawarma also enhanced the flavor in a different way, it really brought out the flavor of the meat, and I think I might just prefer it to garlic sauce!

No other word to describe it.

We also made sure to leave a note on Jacob's graffiti wall to show our appreciation.

I guess you know where I'll be having lunch tomorrow. Oh, and the best part? Jacob's is open 24 hours a day.

Jacob's Shawarma is located at 115 AIC Grande Tower, Sapphire Rd. Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
